As I sat down to write this First Thought's article, I began typing out my analysis on a few results. Then, when I looked up and returned to my ocean of TFRRS tabs, I realized that there was simply no way that I could intensely analyze each of these performances in a timely manner.
So, what we'll do for today is something that we've done before. We're going to highlight any and all major distance results from this past week/weekend with just one-sentence of analysis (each).
Let's see how this goes...
Sarah Hendrick Solos 2:00.98 For 800 Meters at Home Meet
It's not surprising that Hendrick soloed a super fast time (she does that quite often), but this performance forces us to reevaluate her tactics from the 2022 indoor national meet which, based off of this mark, were *maybe* not as ambitious as we once thought.
Katy-Ann McDonald Defeats Loaded 800 Field to Run 2:00.98 at Bryan Clay
Not only was this race part of an impressive weekend double, and not only did she run an ultra-fast time, but McDonald just defeated a VERY good field, giving us newfound confidence in this LSU veteran.
Allison Andrews-Paul Sets D2 800 Meter Record of 2:01
We knew that Andrews-Paul was doing to dominate the D2 ranks this season and this performance seemed to solidify that idea despite Yasmine Hernandez running 2:03 this weekend.
Ellsworth Runs 2:01.72 at Bryan Clay As Part of Incredible Weekend Double
I'm not going to pretend like I expected Ellsworth to run 2:01 this weekend, but her recent performances prior to this weekend suggested that she was gaining momentum.
LSU's Michaela Rose Fares Well in Loaded Bryan Clay 800 Field, Runs 2:02
Rose was a very strong freshman talent during the winter months and was considered an elite high school prospect, but even though there is enough history to suggest that she could have (eventually) run this fast, posting a 2:02 mark is next level...
CSU-Pubelo's Yasmine Hernandez Runs 2:03
A lot of D2 attention will understandably go to Andrews-Paul for her 2:01 record, but this 2:03 mark from Hernandez is huge and it shows us that Andrews-Paul may still have a postseason challenger despite her recent surge.
Grand Canyon's Alexa Hokanson Runs 2:04
This is the only 2:04 mark we're talking about, mainly because no woman in the NCAA has been as consistent as Hokanson, leading us to believe that she could be a problem in the postseason.
Sintayehu Vissa's Late Charge Gives Her 2:01 PR & Win Over Imogen Barrett
Her 800 meter PR finally matches the caliber of her mile PR, but the way that Vissa ran this 2:01 and how she got this win makes me wonder if she'll potentially reevaluate what she does in the postseason.
Barrett's Front-Running Approach Produces 2:01 PR During Weekend Double
She didn't get the win, but this is another elite-level result from Barrett who continues to shift her identity as a miler to an 800 meter runner despite also putting together an excellent 4:14 effort from this past weekend.
Avi' Tal Wilson-Perteete Runs 2:03 to Finish 3rd Behind Vissa & Barrett
I loved this result for the recent Texas A&M transfer as it essentially signals that Wilson-Perteete is back in an elite tier of competition.
Stauber Continues to Progress, Runs 2:03 at Tom Jones Memorial
I think a lot of us having been overlooking this Florida State runner who has rapidly risen back to her peak form from a few years ago which, at the time, produced an All-American honor.
Sydney Steely Runs 2:03, Validates Recent Breakthrough Success
There are always a handful of breakout runners that come with the spring track season, but being able to back up those performance by not only matching, but improving upon, those results is probably the most encouraging aspect to see.
Moad Zahafi Runs Jaw-Dropping 1:43 Mark to Defeat Rivera & Miller
I didn't expect Zahafi to run 1:43, but if anyone not named Brandon Miller was going to do it, then it was going to be this Texas Tech star who thrives with aggressive paces.
Rivera Stays Competitive in Loaded 800 Field, Runs 1:46 to Defeat Miller
It could have been very easy to crumble in this loaded field, but I like this result for Rivera as it shows that even in a super crazy race, he can still walk away with a top result.
Navasky Anderson Drops Three-Second PR to Run 1:46 & Defeat Miller
This was a massive breakout result for the Mississippi State star, but now the question is whether or not Anderson will be able to replicate this result throughout this season, and more importantly, the postseason.
Brandon Miller Surprisingly Falters, Finishes 5th Overall & Runs 1:47
Despite faltering to 5th place overall and running 1:47, I don't anyone is going to look at this result and think of Miller any differently...although Zahafi did make up look human.
Ole Miss' Baylor Franklin Runs 1:47 at Tom Jones Memorial
This was a really strong result, but I don't think anyone is totally shocked by Franklin's 1:47, especially since he ran 1:47 earlier this season.
Texas Tech's Marco Vilca Runs 1:47 at Tom Jones Memorial
He ran 1:47 during the indoor track season and although this is a PR, Vilca has been hovering around this range for a while now.
Reece Sharman-Newell Runs 1:45 at Bryan Clay to Stun the NCAA
After running a jaw-dropping converted 1:46 mark the other week, D2 superstar Sharman-Newell ran 1:45 this past weekend, leaving us to wonder, "Where was this during the indoor season???"
Cebastian Gentil Takes Off Nearly Three Seconds From PR, Runs 1:46
Gentil has been an underappreciated talent for a while now and was on the verge of a breakout race, but I'll admit, seeing him as a 1:46 runner is not something I expected to happen over the course of a single weekend.
Iowa's Alec Still Runs 1:47 at Bryan Clay
This is a new personal best for Still, but when you consider that he has 12 sub-1:50 marks on his resume outside of this PR, it's hard to be too shocked.
Zepf Runs 1:47 to Defeat Brown, Van Dorpe, Johnson & Co.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but the best 800 meter on Notre Dame this year has not been Mosavel-Lo or Voelz...but rather Dartmouth graduate transfer Tim Zepf.
McDonald Wins 1500 Meters in 4:13 After Winning 800 Meters in 2:00
Her 2:00 performance for 800 meter was extremely impressive, but seeing McDonald move up in distance as effectively as she did and run 4:13 to narrowly earn a win probably the more impressive aspect of her resume.
Ellsworth Runs 4:13 at Bryan Clay As Part of Incredible Weekend Double
On a recent episode of the Blue Oval Podcast, I sung Ellsworth's praises and said that she could be dangerous in the future, although seeing her run 2:01 and then 4:13 as part of a weekend double is not the leap that I was expecting.
Elise Thorner Runs 4:15 at Bryan Clay As Part of Strong Weekend Double
Thorner has been an underappreciated name on New Mexico's roster who just put together an excellent weekend double, showing off very encouraging middle speed to complement her steeplechase prowess.
Anna Gibson Runs 4:15 at Bryan Clay
This is a solid result for Gibson, but given her indoor accolades and what she did at the Raleigh Relays, we know she's capable of more.
Abbe Goldstein Runs 4:15 at Bryan Clay
This was a very solid and respectable result for someone who has built her reputation as a miler, but this result was still somewhat predictable.
Micaela DeGenero Runs 4:15 at Bryan Clay
It may be easy to look at where the defending the indoor mile champion finished in this field and be concerned, but let's not forget that Colorado peaked perfectly for the postseason this past winter and we have no reason to believe that that won't happen again.
Barrett Runs 4:14 at Tom Jones Memorial (Win) During Weekend Double
Her weekend double as a whole was more impressive, but securing a win in a time as fast as 4:14 shows off strength which, as we saw during her 800 race, can carry her to a new personal best.
Gracie Morris Has Breakout Race, Runs 4:14 to Nearly Earn Win Over Barrett
Previously at Texas before transferring to TCU, Morris was a standout high schooler, but her running 4:14 and nearly snagging a win over a top-ranked name is extremely impressive and it should be considered as a breakout performance.
Eliud Kipsang Runs Mind-Boggling 1500 Meter NCAA Record of 3:33
If anyone in the NCAA was going to run the collegiate record in the 1500 meters this spring, it was going to be Kipsang, and while this performance will certainly catapult him back up our rankings, seeing how he fares against Nuguse and company at the outdoor national meet is something that this result does not gives us a ton of clarity about.
Abdi Nur Runs 3:36 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
This is an outstanding time, but after the indoor season that Nur had, I can't say that I'm totally shocked by this time.
Jonathan Davis Runs 3:36 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
This is a huge race for Davis who just had what was arguably the best race of his career, validating the idea that he returned to his peak form from a few years ago.
George Kusche Runs 3:37 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
This is a monumental and encouraging rebound performance for Kusche, mainly because he has been struggling ever since the Millrose Games.
Ryan Schoppe Runs 3:37 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
I'm probably the biggest Ryan Schoppe fan in the country right now and this race only validated why I am so high on him this year.
Luke Houser Runs 3:37 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Houser keeps getting better and better every time he toes the line, leading me to believe that he could run 3:36 later this season in the right setting.
Matthew Payamps Runs 3:37 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
After running a controlled 3:55 mile time at Boston University this past winter, and running 1:47 for 800 meters, I can't say that I'm surprised by this result, although it is impressive.
Jack Salisbury Runs For 3:37 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
The time is phenomenal, but we knew Salisbury could do this, and frankly, he's probably more dangerous in a championship setting (fast or tactical) which we saw last year.
Nico Young Runs 3:37 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Great performance, but hardly surprising and very predictable.
Cathal Doyle Runs 3:38 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
After seeing him run 13:38 for 5000 meters at the Stanford Invite, I knew that Doyle had the raw fitness and talent to post something fairly quick in the 1500 meters, although this 3:38 is probably one second faster that I was expecting.
Adam Fogg Runs 3:38 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
This is probably one of Fogg's best performances, but it's not necessarily anything out of the realm of what we thought he could run.
Jesse Hamlin Runs 3:38 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
I like to think of this result as a reminder as to how good Hamlin was last year, although he how he fares in the postseason is the more important caveat to consider.
Isaac Basten Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Solid run, but nothing too surprising for Basten who was probably capable of posting something just a little bit faster.
Matt Strangio Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
After a solid 3:59 mile during the indoor season, Strangio just posted a 3:39 mark for 1500 meters which is a somewhat large leap in fitness, leaving us to wonder what we should expect from this Portland ace in the future.
Duncan Hamilton Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Yep, after seeing in his indoor performances and comparing, this seems about right, although keep in mind that this race was part of a weekend double where he ran 13:30 for 5000 meters as well.
Tom Dodd Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
He ran 3:39 the other weekend at the Duke Invitational and while seeing him replicate that mark may not be a surprise, it is encouraging to know that Dodd can post a mark like that on multiple occasions.
Jacob Brueckman Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
It's hard not to feel good for Brueckman who has been slowly chipping away at his personal bests for years now, finally leading to what was clearly a breakout 3:39 performance.
Nehemia Too Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
His 1:49 personal best and his 13:52 personal best suggested that Too would be a great miler/1500 meter runner -- something that was proven to be true this past weekend.
Drew Bosley Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
I'm not necessarily surprised that someone of Bosley's caliber was able to run 3:39, but this is the first time I've seen Bosley show off high-level leg speed and turnover which is encouraging.
Martin Prodanov Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Prodanov is an experienced, consistent, versatile and flat-out fast runner, making this 3:39 mark hardly surprising.
Karl Winter Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Some people may not know who Winter is, but the Pepperdine ace has been a solid talent for the last few seasons, running 3:40 at this exact same meet in 2021.
Nathan Green Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Green had been knocking on the door of a sub-four mile during his high school days and had a great 1500 meter debut at the Raleigh Relays, but this mark feels like validation that Green truly will translate his prep-level success to the collegiate realm.
Cruz Gomez Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Can't say I'm too surprised here as running 3:39 is hardly surprising for someone of Gomez's caliber.
Matt Rizzo Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Rizzo has been somewhat quiet since his transfer from Stanford to Georgetown, and I thought that when he did break out, it would be in the 800 meters, but I suppose I was wrong given his 3:39 result.
Aaron Ahl Runs 3:39 For 1500 Meters at Bryan Clay
Ahl's personal best is actually 3:38 from this past summer and given his 3:57 mile from this past winter, it seems safe to say that this result was fairly predictable.
Abby Nichols Follows Fast 5k Pace to Run 15:15 at Mt. SAC Relays
After running 15:27 earlier in the season, we had suspicions that Nichols could be a top name in the 5k, although after this 15:15 mark, she has to be considered as a possible title contender, especially if Wayment opts out of the event for the steeplechase.
Mercy Chelangat Thrives in Loaded Field to Run 15:17 at Mt. SAC Relays
Super fast high-level fields favor a longer distance specialist like Chelangat, so as impressive as this performance was, I can't say that I'm too surprised.
Lauren Gregory Runs 15:25 For 5000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Despite this result being a PR, I think this race -- and more specifically this weekend -- told us that Gregory's best chance at a national title this spring lies in the 10k, although that's certainly not to say that she can't be a top challenger in the 5k.
Roisin Flanagan Sets D2 5k Record of 15:28, Returns to Use Eligibility
I feel a little silly here as I could have sworn that I didn't see Roisin on Adams State roster when checking recently, BUT that doesn't make her continued D2 dominance in the longer distances any less impressive.
Isabel Van Camp Runs 15:54 For 5000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Van Camp is a sneaky-good name who can do a little bit of everything and I think this past weekend, matched with her recent results, is a good example of that.
Kelby Anderson Runs 15:58 For 5000 Meters at Mt. SAC
The North Dakota standout may not always get the attention that she deserves, but this is a solid result and it continues to put her in the category of women who could potentially surprise us at the regional meets.
Greta Karinauskaite Runs 15:58 For 5000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Karinauskaite's sub-10 steeplechase time from earlier this season caught our attention, but this result seemingly validates that steeple mark which is nice to have.
Taylor Roe Earns Statement 5k Win of 15:21 at Bryan Clay
I have been saying for months now that Roe should run the 5000 meters and that this could be her best event -- and I think I was right, although this was hardly a hot take.
Advan Cohen Runs 15:29 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
While this result is encouraging to see, we've seen Cohen look like two different runners at two different points of a competitive season, leaving me unsure which version of Cohen we will see next.
Gracelyn Larkin Runs 15:29 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Larkin is slowly creeping up towards that "elite" status, making really underrated improvements every time she toes the line.
Emily Covert Runs 15:40 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
This is a solid and respectable result, but I thought this field would have primed for Covert to drop near (or under) the 15:30 barrier.
Cara Woolnough Runs 15:40 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
This was a fairly substantial PR for Woolnough, but she's been progressing for a while now and on paper, she was due for a big PR in her marquee event.
Camila Noe Runs 15:52 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Noe is more of a cross country specialist, so it's hard to really look too deep into this result.
Indiana Johnson Runs 15:55 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
This is a fine race for Johnson, but her PR is 15:50 and I think she's probably better suited for the 10k.
Emma Heckel Runs 15:57 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Not the best weekend for this indoor 5k national qualifier, but she's run 15:41 before, is better in the 10k and up until this weekend, has been incredible every time that she had toed the line.
Fay Throws Down Insane Kick to Win Bryan Clay 5k in 13:16
If Fay can stay close enough to the leaders in the postseason and replicate that same kick that we saw this past weekend, then there is no one in the NCAA who will be able to beat him.
Beadlescomb Settles For 2nd in Bryan Clay 5k Invite in 13:17
On paper, Beadlescomb has all of the tactical tools to be a 5k national champion this season, although I'm not sure if this race told us anything that the winter season didn't.
Eduardo Herrera Runs 13:20 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
I love this result for Herrera as it further validates the idea that he has reached a truly elite tier of distance running and so far, Herrera has proven that he thrives in ultra-fast fields.
Kieran Lumb Runs 13:23 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
This result makes me want to add a "Comeback" superlative to our "End of Season Awards".
Casey Clinger Runs 13:23 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Casey Clinger is a household name, but to everyone who doesn't read TSR, he seems to be undervalued, specifically this season and especially in terms of his recent momentum.
Victor Kiprop Runs 13:24 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
While I want to be surprised, this is what we expected to see from Kiprop when word began to travel that he was joining the Crimson Tide.
Alex Maier Runs 13:26 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
In terms of value and range, Maier is one of the best in the nation, but a 13:26 in 2022 doesn't mean as much as it once did before this year.
Isaac Green Runs 13:29 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Despite this time, Green will continue to go under the radar.
Duncan Hamilton Runs 13:30 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
This may be a PR, but relative to his recent indoor success, specifically in the 3k, I can't say that this is a total surprise, although his weekend double was incredible.
Baldvin Magnusson Runs 13:32 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
I really like Magnussion a lot and this 13:32 continues to raise his stock.
Isaac Harding Runs 13:34 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
After his 10k at the Raleigh Relays, we knew Harding was near top shape, meaning that a 5k PR was probably realistic.
Patrick Kiprop Runs 13:35 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
After his 10k performance, I wasn't surprised to see Kiprop run a top time in a fast field, although I admittedly thought he would run a little bit faster this past weekend.
Tanner Chada Runs 13:37 For 5000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Chada is on fire right now and looks like a completely different runner (in a good way) this season.
Sam Gilman Runs 13:33 to Win Mt. SAC Relays 5k
The time was strong, but the win was probably better and I think most people would agree with me.
Brianna Robles Runs 32:50 to Emerge as Top Collegiate in Mt. SAC 10k
Based on her indoor track season, it makes sense that Robles was going to have success in the 10k as she is clearly someone who thrives in the longer distances.
Emily Venters Runs 33:07 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Venter is another woman who thrives in the longer distances, although I thought the 5k would be her best event -- a suspicion that was ultimately wrong thanks to a 10k time that puts her in the All-American conversation.
Isabel Hebner Runs 33:41 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
We even said earlier this season that the Hebner sisters would likely go out west to run a fast 10k time and sure enough, that's what happened.
Kathleen Simms Runs 33:43 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
The success we've seen from Simms this season is a good reflection of the new coaching staff that recently overhauled this program.
Sarah Carter Runs 33:44 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
This is Carter's third-straight PR and on paper, she is clearly someone who gets better the longer the racing distance becomes, something that is reflected in her recent results.
Bella Williams Runs 33:59 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Solid time, but I actually think she's capable of more given her cross country accolades and recent 3k success.
Jennifer Sandoval Runs 33:10 For 10,000 Meters at Bryan Clay
The longer distances were already stacked on the women's D2 side, and Sandoval makes that group only more stacked, although we'll have to see how she fares in the postseason.
Everlyn Kemboi Runs 33:12 For 10,000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Hannah Branch Runs 33:17 For 10,000 Meters at Bryan Clay
Mazzie Melaney Runs 33:35 For 10,000 Meters at Bryan Clay
I'm grouping all of these women together because my comment is the same for each of these women: What is in the water at Utah Valley?
Sophie Leathers Runs 33:48 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Prior to this weekend, Leathers had never run faster than 35:37 (10k), she currently holds a 9:53 (3k) personal best and she has run no faster than 16:44 for 5000 meters, making this 10k result a monster breakout performance for her.
Linda Perez Runs 33:48 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Perez has earned a personal best in each of her four last races and based on her resume, it seems like she has found her marquee event in the 10k.
Dylan Jacobs Runs 28:01 to Defeat Loaded 10k Field at Mt. SAC
Jacobs was born to be a 10k runner (especially with the underrated speed that he posses) and this win at Mt. SAC makes him a real title contender...depending on which version of Jacobs we see at the national meet.
Amon Kemboi Runs 28:02 in First Track 10k Since 2018
I never really envisioned Kemboi moving up to the 10k, especially since he hasn't contested the event since 2018, but although he handled this race fairly well, will he really try to double this event alongside the 5k in the postseason?
Awet Beraki Runs 28:12 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Beraki was a breakout star in latter portion of the indoor track season and although his 5k success was great, I don't think we were expecting him to run 28:12 this season.
Danny Kilrea Runs 28:23 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Kilrea has always leaned more towards the longer distances and his cross country success suggested that he would be great in the 10k, although admittedly, it took him quite a while to have this level of success if you look at his past 10k results on the track.
Christian Allen Runs 28:26 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Allen has been very up and down over the last few years, but when he's at 100%, then he's challenging to take down...as this past weekend shows.
Haftu Knight Runs 28:30 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
This is the result I always knew that Knight was capable of as it validates the Texas star as a true long distance standout.
Yaseen Abdalla Runs 28:33 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
The fact that Abdalla was moving up in distance and STILL ran this well is a testament to his overall value, utility and range as a distance runner.
Jacob Klemz Runs 28:39 For 10,000 Meters at Mt. SAC
Portland always seems to have a great 10k runner and from the looks of it, they have another one in Klemz, a former Division Two standout who has always thrived in the longer distances and just needed the right setting to catch national recognition on the D1 stage.
Courtney Wayment Runs NCAA #4 All-Time Steeple Mark of 9:26
I know this is a wildly exciting result for a lot of people (and rightfully so), but given Wayment's 9:23 PR from the Olympic Trials and her recent display of elite-level fitness, I can't say I'm too surprised.
Elise Thorner Runs 9:40 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
Thorner had a really underrated weekend double, posting marks that suddenly make her an All-American contender in the steeplechase while having enough 1500 meter speed to match some of the other 1500 meter times from the top steeple women in the NCAA.
Joyce Kimeli Runs 9:41 For 3k Steeplechase at War Eagle Invite
A great start to her outdoor track season was essentially a warmup for her main event and while I want to say more, I'm not sure I could offer any analysis that's new right now.
Logan Jolly Runs 9:45 For 3k Steeplechase at Bryan Clay
Ever since her 4:35 mile from the indoor track season, Jolly has been on absolute fire, throwing down incredible personal bets and now emerging as an All-American contender in an event where she had previously never run faster than 10:04 in the event.
Madison Boreman Runs 9:46 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
Considering her recent mile success during the indoor track season, it's not a total shock that Boreman matched her PR, although if the Buffaloes peak in the postseason like they did this past winter, then Boreman could run in the 9:30s.
Lexy Halladay Runs 9:55 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
This may be a minor surprise for some people, but Halladay was excellent during the winter months and was capable of running this time as long as she was comfortable enough getting over the barriers.
Krissy Gear Runs 10:00 For 3k Steeplechase at Bryan Clay
Not Gear's best race ever, but far from her worst and not enough to distract me from her 1500 meter success that she had the other weekend.
Kenneth Rooks Runs 8:32 For 3k Steeplechase to Earn Win at Mt. SAC
Rooks is a steeple pro and after a not-so-great performance at the Stanford Invite, seeing him rebound like this, almost as if he was making a statement, was wildly impressive.
Clement Duigou Runs 8:36 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
Much like teammate Awet Beraki, Duigou's indoor success from late in the season has followed him to the outdoor oval where he has continued to build momentum in a way that very few others in the NCAA can.
Levi Taylor Runs 8:38 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
On paper, Taylor doesn't have a ton of flashy personal bests, but he has been a solid steeplechase name and someone knocking on the door of a breakout performance which, evidently, came this past weekend.
Reece Smith Runs 8:39 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
This D2 standout has been a major steeplechase name for a while now, but he just leapt into a new tier while, at the same time, matching the overall improvements that we're seeing around the NCAA.
Tracen Warnick Runs 8:41 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
Warnick began to show signs of promise last spring, but after a 3:58 mile PR this past winter, continued improvements in other events and a small two-second PR this past weekend in the steeplechase, it's hard to dislike anything about Warnick right now.
Joel Mendez Runs 8:42 For 3k Steeplechase at Bryan Clay
There are always a few names who standout in the spring by taking advantage of the steeplechase and when you look at Mendez's resume, that is certainly the case as his recent 8:42 is a major surprise when looking at his other non-steeple results.
Gable Sieperda Runs 8:43 For 3k Steeplechase at Bryan Clay
I'm pumped to see Sieperda post a top-tier result as he has slowly gotten better over time and doesn't always get the recognition he deserves considering the success of his teammates.
Sam Affolder Runs 8:43 For 3k Steeplechase at Mt. SAC
A star in high school, it's taken a few years, but Affolder looks like he's getting more and more comfortable, something that we saw this past winter and, so far, in his two steeple races this spring.
Adam Bunker Runs 8:44 For 3k Steeplechase at Bryan Clay
*See women's 10k featuring Everlyn Kemboi, Hannah Branch & Mazzie Melaney, for analysis
Ryan Hartman Runs 8:44 For 3k Steeplechase at Bryan Clay
Hartman was an excellent and an underrated name this past winter, thriving in the mile, but we now have to reevaluate how we think about Hartman following an 8:44 (steeple) and 13:59 (5k) weekend double...
