1. Wartburg Knights

Aubrie Fisher's decision to forgo the mile and the 5k in favor of the 3k on Saturday and a fresh DMR leg on Friday will bolster a Wartburg team that already would have been contenders in this event regardless of what she chose to do.

2. UW-Oshkosh Titans

The Titans have had an exceptional middle distance group all season long, and each of their legs are strong enough to stay in the lead or near the lead en route to a potential title victory.

3. UW-La Crosse Eagles

It's not hard not to think La Crosse will be one of the teams in the mix, especially given that all four of their legs will be coming into the relay fresh as they aren't entered in individual events.

4. Washington U. Bears

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bears be very close to the lead going into the anchor leg, but Emma Walters will have a very tough task ahead of her as she will need to hang with some highly credentialed milers.

5. Middlebury Panthers

This Middlebury relay has a lot of shared experience between their 1200, 800 and 1600 legs given that they are all seniors, something that may help them keep composure on the big stage.

6. Williams Ephs

Unlike Middlebury, three of the Ephs' four legs have freshman eligibility, so it will be interesting to see whether or not their relative lack of championship experience affects their ultimate placing.

7. Johns Hopkins Blue Jays

The Blue Jays have the ability to win a national title in this relay if they get the baton to Ella Baran in close-enough striking distance of the leaders.

8. SUNY Geneseo Knights

There aren't any individual track All-Americans in this group like some of the teams seeded ahead of them, but there aren't any weaknesses on this relay and it doesn't hurt that they will all be fresh on Friday night.

9. U. of Chicago Maroons

This is a very dangerous relay despite their relative youth, and it looks like they will be taking the DMR pretty seriously with Claudia Harnett and Maddie Kelly scratching out of their individual events.

10. Loras Duhawks

How competitive Loras is in the DMR may partially be a function of how little energy Kassie Parker can expend in the 5000 meters and still win.

11. Calvin Knights

Sadie Heeringa is one of the better anchors in this field and Delaney Sall should be able to run a solid opening leg even after an 800 meter prelim, meaning that it will be up to the 400 and 800 legs of this relay to keep Calvin in a competitive spot.

12. Mount Union Purple Raiders

Mount Union is mostly thought of as a sprints program, but their DMR is the real deal, headlined by 4:34 (1500) runner Brittany McCaulley and boasting the capability to pull of a surprise All-American finish.

Final Predictions:

  1. Wartburg Knights

  2. UW-Oshkosh Titans

  3. Johns Hopkins Blue Jays

  4. UW-La Crosse Eagles

  5. Middlebury Panthers

  6. U. of Chicago Maroons

  7. Washington U. Bears

  8. SUNY Geneseo Knights
