NEWS: Jonathan Marcus Hired As Next Head Coach at Portland State

Earlier today, Portland State announced that they have hired Jonathan Marcus as the next head coach of the school's track and field and cross country programs. Marcus previously worked as an assistant coach with the Vikings from 2012 to 2015.

Marcus originally founded a "sub-elite" professional training group known as High Performance West. Notable athletes included Tara Welling, McKayla Fricker and Eleanor Fulton. He has also founded High Performance Growth, a training and education platform.

In June, Portland State announced that they would not renew the contract of former head coach, David Hepburn. The parting of ways stems from an eligibility issue this past spring which left Jordan MacIntosh, one of the nation's better steeplechasers in 2023, out of the West Regional Championships.

Jack Mullaney, an assistant coach at the University of Portland, was initially hired (and announced) as the Vikings' newest head coach back in late June. However, Mullaney would later "reverse course" and withdraw from the position.
