According to the 2020 cross country roster for Lee University, the Flames have added South Africa native Liza Kellerman to their team. The transfer from Johannesburg University has two seasons of indoor track and outdoor track eligibility remaining, as well as three seasons of cross country eligibility.
Kellerman comes to the United States with personal bests of 2:05 (800), 2:50 (1000) and 4:31 (1500). Her accolades in the half-mile distance could place her in the D2 national title conversation when competition resumes.
For perspective, no woman at the D2 level ran faster than 2:06 for 800 meters during the 2020 indoor track season. Only three D2 women ran faster than 2:06 for 800 meters during the 2019 outdoor track season (and all three have since graduated).
Kellerman should also fit in as the Flames' #2 runner in cross country behind top scorer Celine Ritter (TSR #8). The South Africa runner recorded a 10k personal best of 37:41 during cross country last fall. In that race, Kellerman was two spots behind Arkansas Razorback and fellow South Africa native Carina Viljoen.
