According to a trusted source, The Stride Report has learned that Stanford's Joshua Schumacher is currently in the transfer portal. It is still unclear when Schumacher is aiming to transition to a new program (if at all), although TSR is aware that the Stanford veteran is in the portal as a graduate transfer.
According to TFRRS, Schumacher has two seasons of cross country eligibility remaining and numerous seasons of indoor track and outdoor track eligibility remaining.
Following the departure of Coach Chris Miltenberg in the summer of 2019, Schumacher is now one of many Stanford distance talents who have explored new academic and athletic endeavors outside of Palo Alto.
The Class of 2018 high school graduate was a distance running star during his prep days. The Oregon native owned times of 4:11 (mile), 8:22 (3k), 8:53 (two-mile) and 14:29 (5k) during his time at Jesuit High School. He was also a Foot Locker national qualifier and made multiple appearances at the Brooks PR Invitational.
Schumacher is also the son of legendary Bowerman Track Club coach Jerry Schumacher.
At the collegiate level, Schumacher has had mixed success. He recently finished 31st in a competitive field at the FSU XC Open this past fall, pulling ahead of talented teammates such as Devin Hart and Liam Anderson.
Schumacher would later go on to place 5th overall in the "B" race at the Nuttycombe Invitational before ending his 2021 cross country season with a 40th place finish at the PAC-12 XC Championships.
According to TFRRS, Schumacher has not (knowingly) raced on an indoor track or an outdoor track once during his college career.
