Earlier today, The Stride Report received notice that Katie Wasserman (formerly of Columbia) will be finishing her eligibility with Notre Dame as a graduate transfer. She has only one season of outdoor track eligibility remaining.
One of the top distance runners in the Ivy League over the past year, Wasserman has developed into a very respectable competitor. Her 2019 cross country season was highlighted by a 21st place finish at the Nuttycombe Invitational and then a runner-up finish at the Ivy League Championships.
This past winter, Wasserman ran a 4:40 mile on JDL's flat track at the Camel City Elite Invite. That time converted to 4:37.55 (NCAA #22) which helped her qualify for the Indoor National Championships (a meet that was ultimately cancelled due to concerns surrounding the Coronavirus). She also owns a personal best of 4:22 for 1500 meters.
Wasserman will join Kenny Vasbinder -- a Columbia teammate who will be running for the Notre Dame men in 2021 -- in South Bend later this year. She will add valuable experience to a distance group that recently lost long-time veteran Anna Rohrer to graduation.
