Earlier today, Providence College announced that AJ Ernst (formerly of the University of Virginia) will be finishing his eligibility with the Friars as a graduate transfer. Ernst is expected to have eligibility in both cross country and outdoor track, but does not have any eligibility remaining for indoor track.
Ernst was a top distance talent during his time with the Virginia Cavaliers. This past indoor season, he ran 3:59 for the mile which complemented his 8:05 3k PR from 2019. In addition to his prowess on the track, Ernst offers plenty of value on the cross country course. He finished 20th at ACC's last fall and went on to finish 11th at the Southeast Regional Championships.
Ernst, a native of Massachusetts, will return to the northeast and join a Providence team that was led by rising senior Ryan Gallagher (8:07 3k, 14:18 5k) this past winter. Ernst will also bring immediate firepower and low-stick potential to the Friars' cross country lineup this fall.
