We’re back with the second edition of the The Stride Report Division 2 Top 15 Rankings!
That title feels a little long...we’ll work on it.
These rankings take into effect what the athletes ran prior to their Christmas breaks. With the season beginning to wind up this upcoming weekend, we wanted to hold off until now in order to reignite some interest.
The rankings have mostly remained unchanged. We have one new athlete entering the rankings with another moving up based off of his performance. There is sure to be more times this weekend and we should see almost all of these athletes have a race time in some event or another.
Until then, give these rankings a look and (as always) comment whether or not you think we’ve got it right.
Cheers.
15. Josh Hoskinson, Colorado Mines (Unranked)
Hoskinson was the top Oredigger at their home meet. He led the trio of himself, Luc Hagen, and Luke Julian to sub-15 minute 5k's. Hoskinson has continued to impress as he moves up in distance. His 14:50 converts to 14:08 which will likely be enough to send him to Nationals in March.
14. Ackeen Colley, American International (0 / 14)
Idle.
13. Felix Wammetsberger, Queens (N.C.) (0 / 13)
Idle.
12. Robert Downs, Texas A&M Kingsville (0 / 12)
Idle.
11. Marcelo Laguera, CSU-Pueblo (0 / 11)
Idle.
10. Grant Colligan, Colorado Mines (0 / 10)
Idle.
9. Leakey Kipkosgei, American International (-1 / 8)
Idle.
8. Brett Meyer, Fort Hays State (-2 / 6)
Idle.
7. Elias Gedyon, Adams State (0 / 7)
Gedyon waited just six days before he found himself competing after cross country. He was four seconds behind Gidabuday with his 8:28 and now holds the second fastest time in the country with his conversion of 7:58. Gedyon doesn’t hold the same PR's as Gidabuday, but his performance at XC Nationals backs up his national rank for now.
6. Enael Woldemichael, Grand Valley State (+3 / 9)
Woldemichael joined Panning in the 5000 on December 7th and finished four seconds behind him. His 14:04 is a second better than that automatic mark giving Woldemichael his second straight appearance at the indoor national meet this March. I’d expect a 3000 performance coming from him soon as well.
5. Shaquille Dill, St. Augustines (0 / 5)
Idle.
4. Dustin Nading, Western Oregon (0 / 4)
Idle.
3. Zach Panning, Grand Valley State (0 / 3)
Panning also waited only six days before getting back to competition. He took advantage of his cross country fitness and took home the 5000 meter title at the GVSU Holiday Open where he ran 13:58, placing him underneath the automatic qualifying mark for the national meet in March. Expect to see a 3k performance from him soon after the break is over.
2. Sydney Gidabuday, Adams State (0 / 2)
Gidabuday was the other Grizzly that made waves the week after cross country. He put his cross country performance behind him and reminded us all that he’s still a serious threat on the track. In Alamosa, he ran 8:24 for 3000 meters and added a 14:47 for 5000 meters within the same weekend. Obviously, these times were eventually converted, but given Gidabuday’s PR’s there should be no real concern here. He sits at #1 in both categories with times of 7:54 and 13:52.
1. Thomas Staines, CSU-Pueblo (0 / 1)
Staines continued his run of success on the track earlier in December where he ran 1:51 at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite. He won by seven seconds and his time converts down to 1:48 putting him almost a full second under the national auto mark.
