BREAKING: Brown University Reinstates Men's Cross Country & Track

Earlier today, The Stride Report received notice that the men's track and cross country teams at Brown -- which had been demoted to club sports in late May -- were being reinstated as varsity sports at the university.

The Stride Report was then able to confirm with numerous members of the team -- both current and former -- that Brown University is, in fact, reinstating the men's cross country and track teams. The decision follows extensive campaigning to keep the programs as varsity sports and comes in response to a petition which garnered nearly 50,000 signatures at the time of publication.

Former Princeton runner Russell Dinkins also played an integral role in the reemergence of Brown's cross country and track programs. Dinkins recently made an appearance on Chris Chavez's Citius Mag Podcast to discuss the loss of the programs and the racial inequity that stemmed from the decision.

Brown track and cross country runner Dominic Morganti informed The Stride Report that the reinstatement includes all three seasons of competition -- indoor track, outdoor track and cross country.

An announcement from the university is expected to come later tonight.

UPDATE: Brown University President Christina Paxson has officially announced the reinstatement.
