BREAKING: Steve Neumaier to Finish Eligibility at Oregon

Earlier today, Cornell's Steve Neumaier announced via Instagram that he will be finishing the rest of his eligibility at Oregon starting next year as a graduate transfer. The Ivy League distance talent owns personal bests of 4:05 for the mile and 8:53 for the steeplechase. According to TFRRS, he has only outdoor eligibility left.

The soon-to-be graduate student will join an Oregon team that is slowly building a very respectable group in the steeplechase which includes 8:44 steeplechaser Jackson Mestler and 8:40 steeplechaser Noah Affolder (who is currently rehabbing from an injury).

The Ducks have been the recipients of a few Ivy League talents over the years, most recently Lucky Schreiner who previously attended Columbia.

Despite the NCAA granting an additional year of spring eligibility to current student-athletes, the Ivy League has maintained a long-standing rule which states that athletes within the conference may not compete for their university for more than four years. Neumaier joins recent UNC commits Allen Siegler and Conor Lundy as Ivy League athletes who were ultimately forced to look elsewhere in order to finish their outdoor track eligibility.

The Stride Report can also confirm that additional Ivy League talents will be announcing graduate transfer decisions in the near future.
