Transfer Market (Part Eight)

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

Sam Worley (Transfer Portal)

The Stride Report has confirmed with multiple sources that Texas star Sam Worley is currently listed in the transfer portal as a potential graduate transfer. Worley has been one of the NCAA's top distance runners over the past few years, collecting outstanding personal bests of 1:48 (800), 3:38 (1500), 3:57 (mile) and 8:08 (3k).

He was an All-American during cross country, finishing 27th at the 2019 NCAA XC Championships and also qualified for four national meets on the track, securing two All-American honors in the process.

Worley suffered an injury at the 2020 Husky Classic last winter, sustaining a fractured tibia and keeping him away from competition since February of last year. According to TFRRS, Worley currently has one season of cross country eligibility remaining, one season of indoor track eligibility remaining and two seasons of outdoor track eligibility.

Clarissa Morales (Transfer Portal)

The Stride Report has confirmed that Clarissa Morales (currently with Stanislaus State) is in the transfer portal as a potential graduate transfer. Morales has been a top name in the D2 distance realm over the past few seasons, securing personal bests of 4:56 (mile), 9:35 (3k) and 35:48 (10k). She also ran 16:23 for 5000 meters (unattached) during her redshirt year.

Morales and fellow teammate Cynthia Mejia have proven to be nationally competitive D2 distance talents over the past few seasons and have made promising improvements. Morales was primed to contend for her first All-American honors last winter before the indoor national meet was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Danielle Orie (Penn to Wisconsin)

Wisconsin has announced that current Penn runner Danielle Orie will be joining the Badgers in the fall of 2021 as a graduate transfer. Orie will be pursuing her law degree in Madison, Wisconsin.

The Ivy League distance talent owns strong personal bests of 4:28 (1500), 9:23 (3k) and 16:23 (5k). She was also the 17th place finisher at the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in cross country and the 11th place finisher at the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.

Between COVID and injury, Orie is expected to have two full years of eligibility remaining.

The addition of Orie to this Wisconsin roster is huge. Despite losing top scorers such as Alicia Monson and Amy Davis, the Badgers have since reloaded with women such as Brogan MacDougall and Scarlet Dale. With a strong group of youngsters, an established veteran in Alissa Niggemann and an incoming distance talent in Orie, the Wisconsin women are primed to have a very strong and balanced cross country squad come the fall of 2021.

Last November, it was announced that Danielle's sister, Gabrielle Orie, would be finishing her eligibility with the Colorado Buffaloes next fall as a graduate transfer.

Stefanie Parsons (Edinboro to New Mexico)

Another key distance talent is on their way to Albuquerque. The Stride Report has confirmed that Edinboro's Stefanie Parsons will be finishing her eligibility at the University of New Mexico next fall as a graduate transfer. Parsons is expected to have one season of cross country eligibility remaining, one season of indoor track eligibility remaining and two seasons of outdoor track eligibility.

Parsons has evolved into a strong D2 All-American distance talent, securing personal bests of 2:11 (800), 4:48 (mile), 9:41 (3k) and 17:04 (5k). Last winter, Parsons secured four PSAC indoor titles in the 800, mile, 3k and DMR. She has been a two-time All-American between cross country and track and has qualified for numerous national meets between both seasons.

Parsons now joins Anna Kostarellis (formerly of Xavier), Hannah Miler (formerly of Southern Methodist), Fiona O'Keeffe (formerly of Stanford, but just turned pro) and Samantha Valentine (currently of Brown University) as recent graduate transfers who have joined (or will join) the New Mexico Lobos.
