Transfer Market (Part Two)

Another week, another handful of distance runners to announce! You can click here to view our entire list of known transfers for the summer of 2020...

Luke Meade (Furman to Arkansas)

MileSplit is reporting (via their college commitments page) that Luke Meade, a former runner for the Furman Paladins, will be finishing the rest of his eligibility as a graduate transfer at the University of Arkansas. The Stride Report has also confirmed the move with a separate source.

Meade is an underrated talent who could provide some exceptional value for the Razorbacks over the next year. According to TFRRS, Meade will have eligibility in all three seasons of competition once he arrives in Fayetteville.

The former Furman undergraduate had a breakout indoor track season this past winter, running personal bests of 4:03 (mile), 8:15 (3k) and 14:01 (5k). Meade's 2019 cross country season was cut short last fall as he finished only one race. However, his outstanding indoor track season indicates that Meade is due for greater performances on the grass.

The soon-to-be Razorback joins an Arkansas program that has brought in numerous top-tier transfers over the last few months, including Amon Kemboi, Emmanuel Cheboson and Jacob McLeod.

Spencer Dodds (Virginia to UC Riverside)

Earlier this month, UC Riverside announced that Spencer Dodds will be joining their program as a graduate transfer. Dodds originally started his collegiate career at the University of Texas, but left in the summer of 2017 to join the men at the University of Virginia.

In an odd twist of fate, Coach Pete Watson would eventually leave UVA one year later and join the Texas men as the team's new distance coach.

Dodds leaves Charlottesville, Virginia with personal bests of 1:53 (800), 2:27 (1k), 3:47 (1500), 4:06 (mile), 8:24 (3k) and 14:27 (5k). According to TFRRS, he still has eligibility remaining in all three seasons of competition.

Dodds will be joining Stanford graduate transfer Isaac Cortes at UC Riverside later this fall. Dodds and Cortes were teammates during high school, both attending distance running powerhouse Great Oak High School before graduating in 2016.

With Dodds now joining the program, the UCR Highlanders will be introducing two veteran middle distance runners to their team later this year.

Henry Chapman (Portland to Notre Dame)

Earlier today, The Stride Report confirmed that Henry Chapman (formerly of Portland) will be transferring to Notre Dame later this fall. As a high schooler in Wisconsin, Chapman secured impressive personal bests, running 4:15 (1600) and 8:27 (3k en-route). He also finished 5th in the two-mile at the 2019 New Balance Indoor National Championships.

This past winter, Chapman ran a new PR of 4:13 in the mile. The rising sophomore will be joining a young and promising Notre Dame roster that is loaded with new talent and fresh faces. He will be yet another key name and valuable long-term piece that Coach Sean Carlson can develop over the next few years.

Tyler Fisher (Cornell to Notre Dame)

Last week, The Stride Report was informed that Tyler Fisher will be finishing the rest of his eligibility at Notre Dame as a graduate transfer. The former Cornell runner boasts personal bests of 8:27 (3k), 14:37 (5k) and 30:31 (10k).

According to TFRRS, Fisher has only one season of outdoor track eligibility remaining. He will be joining a plethora of graduate transfers (specifically from the Ivy League) in South Bend later this year.

Incoming transfers joining the Fighting Irish this year include Jacob Stupak (Bucknell), the Daly twins (Penn), Kenny Vasbinder (Columbia), and Henry Chapman (Portland).

Titus Lagat (Middle Tennessee State to Lee (Tenn.))

Earlier this week, sources informed The Stride Report that Titus Lagat will be joining the Lee Flames later this year. Lagat previously spent one year at Middle Tennessee State as a freshman, running times of 1:51 (800) and 4:13 (mile).

Lagat is rumored to have run 1:47 for 800 meters during his time in Kenya, although The Stride Report has been unable to find evidence of that result.

Even so, Lagat's indoor 800 meter time of 1:51 places him among some of the better middle distance talents in Division Two. The former MTSU Blue Raider will have an instant impact with the Flames and could be a nationally competitive name in the middle distances for years to come.
