Transfer Market (Part Six)

A few more distance runners are on the move and we're still keeping track! Here are four key names set to transfer elsewhere either at the end of this semester or at the start of next fall. You can view our full list of (known) distance transfers by clicking here.

Jasmine Fehr (Portland to Tennessee)

Earlier this week, Tennessee announced that Jasmine Fehr (formerly of Portland) will be entering the program as a graduate transfer starting next fall. Fehr also spent time at D2 program Edinboro before joining the Pilots in the summer of 2018. According to TFRRS, she has one season of cross country and one season of indoor track eligibility remaining, as well as multiple seasons of outdoor track eligibility.

Fehr will join the Tennessee women with personal bests of 2:09 (800), 4:21 (1500) and 9:44 (3k). Her 1500 meter PR was run in the summer of 2019. The Canadian also brings national meet experience to the Volunteers after running in the 2018 NCAA D1 XC Championships in Madison, Wisconsin and qualifying for the 2018 NCAA D2 Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 1500 meters.

With promising range, recent improvement and experience racing against top competition, Fehr should prove to be a valuable addition for the women of Rocky Top.

The Lady Vols put together a handful of respectable cross country results this past fall and could be just a couple of pieces away from legitimately contending for a national qualifying spot. Although Fehr has accomplished more on the track than the grass, her recent progress suggests that she could be key varsity contributor in the near future.

Sophie Cantine (Princeton to Washington)

The University of Washington has announced that Sophie Cantine (formerly of Princeton) will be joining the Huskies as a graduate transfer starting next fall. According to TFRRS, Cantine currently has one season of eligibility remaining in both cross country and indoor track as well as two seasons of eligibility in outdoor track.

Cantine is a highly experienced runner and an accomplished Ivy League distance talent. The Princeton Tiger owns personal bests of 2:48 (1k), 4:21 (1500), 4:41 (mile) and 9:23 (3k). In 2018, she finished 8th at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in cross country, leading her team to the NCAA Championships where she finished 117th overall.

Cantine will join a Washington program that is growing increasingly more deep with numerous scoring weapons. Despite a few top talents nearing the end (or at the end) of their eligibility, the Huskies have rebounded well with great recruiting, excellent development and the addition of respectable distance running transfers.

Jordan MacIntosh (Minnesota to Portland State)

On Friday, Portland State announced that Jordan MacIntosh (formerly of Minnesota) will be joining the Vikings as a graduate transfer starting next fall. According to TFRRS, he has one season of eligibility remaining in cross country as well as multiple seasons of eligibility remaining in both indoor and outdoor track.

The middle distance runner joins former teammate Dawson LaRance as a recent graduate transfer leaving the University of Minnesota, a school that recently cut its men's indoor track program.

MacIntosh made notable improvements last winter, running personal bests of 1:53 (800) and 4:06 (mile). He also owns a PR of 3:49 for 1500 meters and finished 35th at the Midwest Regional Championships during the 2019 cross country season, emerging as Minnesota's third scorer that day.

The Vikings of Portland State will be adding a BIG 10 athlete whose mile PR easily eclipses their current school record of 4:09 which was set by Evan Garich in 2005. MacIntosh will now compete in the BIG Sky Conference which features teams such as the Northern Arizona, Southern Utah and Weber State (among others).

Quinn McConnell (Furman to Colorado State)

After spending one year at Furman during the 2019-2020 academic calendar, Quinn McConnell will be transferring to Colorado State starting next semester. The former Paladin is expected to have three seasons of eligibility remaining in both cross country and indoor track, as well as full eligibility for outdoor track (all according to TFRRS).

In high school, McConnell was the 2015 and 2017 Colorado 3A XC state champion as well as the 2016 Colorado 800 meter state champion. McConnell owns personal bests (all from high school) of 2:12 (800), 4:50 (mile) and 17:00 (5k XC). She was also a two-time NXN qualifier, finishing 17th in 2016 and 31st in 2018.

McConnell will join a Colorado State squad which added Florida State graduate transfer Megan Mooney during the summer offseason. The Rams will now have a talented young runner with tons of potential who they can build around for the next few years.
