NEWS: Taylor Chiotti Transfers To Washington

On Monday, Chris Hansen of The Register Guard reported that Taylor Chiotti (formerly of Oregon) is now listed in the student directory at the University of Washington. Her Instagram page now indicates that she will be running for the Huskies.

On Wednesday, Washington confirmed that Chiotti was transferring into the program.

The future UW runner has two seasons of cross country eligibility and three seasons of outdoor track eligibility remaining. She is also applying for a medial redshirt for indoor track which would give her three seasons of eligibility if approved.

Chiotti will now join coach Maurica Powell who left Eugene, Oregon for Seattle, Washington in the summer of 2018 prior to Chiotti's first season of collegiate competition.

The soon-to-be Husky has had plenty of success in her first two years with the Ducks, running personal bests of 2:05 (800) and 4:20 (1500) on the outdoor oval. She also finished 79th at the 2019 NCAA XC Championships last fall, emerging as Oregon's top scorer in Terre Haute.

For the Oregon women, this is a difficult loss. The team that finished 26th at the NCAA XC Championships last year was expected to be without four women from that championship lineup (based on TFRRS results) and will now lose another scorer following Chiotti's transfer.

As for the Washington women, they will add yet another promising piece to their cross country and track arsenals. In a normal year where the 2020 national meet isn't cancelled, the Huskies likely would have been contenders for the podium.
