GRAD TRANSFER: Miles Smith to Finish Eligibility at Stanford

The Stride Report has confirmed that UMBC's Miles Smith will finish the rest of his athletic eligibility at Stanford University as a graduate transfer next year. Smith has only one season of outdoor track eligibility remaining. He will be pursuing a degree in civil and environmental engineering.

Known as a traditional middle distance runner, Smith has specialized in the 800 meters throughout his collegiate career with UMBC. The soon-to-be Stanford graduate student owns a personal best of 1:50 for 800 meters along with a 1000 meter PR of 2:28.

Smith is joining a Stanford program which just underwent a mass exodus of top talents over the past two months. The Cardinal have lost numerous men to transfer (or graduate transfer) situations. Names include Matt Rizzo (Georgetown), Thomas Ratcliffe (North Carolina), Alex Ostberg (North Carolina) and Isaac Cortes (UC Riverside).

The former UMBC runner will team up with Brandon McGorty in Palo Alto in an effort to add depth to a middle distance group that just lost Rizzo and Cortes.
