GRAD TRANSFER: Michaela Meyer to Finish Eligibility at UVA

Updated: May 14, 2020

The Stride Report has learned that former Delaware runner Michaela Meyer will finish the rest of her eligibility at the University of Virginia as a graduate transfer next year according to her Instagram bio. TSR was also able to confirm the move with an outside source. Meyer will have one season of cross country eligibility and one season of outdoor track eligibility remaining.

The soon-to-be Cavalier had a breakout indoor track season this past winter, running a jaw-dropping time of 2:03.40 seconds in the 800 meters at the Boston University Last Chance Qualifier in late February. That time ranked Meyer at NCAA #4 this past winter and helped her qualify for the Indoor National Championships. Prior to that, Meyer's personal best was 2:07 from the 2019 outdoor track season.

Virginia's incoming recruiting class is headlined by a handful of talented high school 800 meter runners such as Ellie Desmond (2:14), Keara Seasholtz (2:10), Claire Frazier Bolton (2:12) and Canada's Anna Workman (2:08). The Blue Hens standout will bring an experienced resume to Charlottesville and help transition a young middle distance group into collegiate competition.

Delaware distance coach Ryan Waite worked with Meyer during her time with the Blue Hens. Waite spent one year at Oregon training under current UVA head coach Vin Lananna for one year before transferring to BYU. Now, after spending four years with Waite, Meyer will transfer to Virginia and also spend one year being coached by Lananna.
