BREAKING: Elijah Armstrong Transfers to BYU

Earlier today, BYU announced via Instagram that Elijah Armstrong would be transferring into the program. Armstrong had been with Boise State since 2015, skipping the entirety of 2017 and most of 2018 for a mission trip.

While at Boise State, Armstrong proved to be a pivotal piece of Boise State's distance group. As a true freshman, Armstrong finished 70th at the 2015 NCAA XC Championships. He was also the 2016 10k Mountain West champion (outdoor) as well as the 2019 5k Mountain West champion (outdoor).

Armstrong's addition to the BYU program is big win for the Cougars. The team loses top scorers such as Daniel Carney and Jacob Heslington next fall, as well as Michael Ottesen. Adding Armstrong to the lineup will give BYU some scoring stability as they attempt to fill any gaps within their top seven.

As for Boise State, this is a painful loss. The Broncos were already losing Miler Haller to expired cross country eligibility (per TFRRS). Now, they will also be without Elijah Armstrong.

Armstrong has one season of eligibility left for cross country and two seasons of eligibility left for indoor and outdoor track. He owns personal bests of 8:09 (3k) and 13:58 (5k).
